Louzette Gertrude Schmoekel died Friday June 15th 2018 at the Hudson Valley Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center in Highland NY. She was the daughter and only child of Ellen (Lucht) Schmoekel (1897-1974) and Walter Schmoekel (1897-1992). Louzette was born July 31st 1931 in Mount Vernon NY. The family moved to West Shokan in Ulster County NY by 1932. In 1936 her father started a chicken farm know as "The Green Hen Farm" and later, with Louzette's help, shipped his egg and meat products to places like New York City. Louzette attended the West Shokan School and graduated from Kingston High School in 1950. After her father's 1992 death, she moved to an apartment on Fair Street in Kingston. She usually retired in the late afternoon and got up at 4 am. She enjoyed her pets, reading, watching favorite TV shows and always looked forward to the daily visited of her daycare helper Rose Bower who brought donuts and other treats. Most anyone who knew Louzette would attest to her strong mental awareness, knowledge, engaging conversation and determination.
She leaves her long-time and loving friend Rose Bower of Kingston NY, and four cousins: Daniel Brown of Glens Falls NY, Patricia Kruger of Charleston SC, Betty Hauge of Albuquerque NM, and Gerald Kruger of Jacksonville FL. Louzette was buried with her parents in the Mount Pleasant Rural Cemetery on Route 28 in Mount Tremper, Ulster County NY. Louzette's survivors extend their sincere gratitude to the Hudson Valley Rehabilitation Center and to E. B. Gormley Funeral Home in Phoenicia NY for their personal care and notable consideration.
