Michael William O'Grady, 73 of Maple Street died May 25, 2019 at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital. He was born in Queens on August 9, 1945 son of the late Michael and Gertrude Woods O'Grady. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, and continued his service to his country by being a member of the American Legion.
If you ventured to the park on a sunny day, you might have seen Mike and beloved dogs Patty and Otis sitting in the sun. He loved his animals as he loved all those who were close to him. He enjoyed the quiet beauty of the Catskill Mountains that had been his home for over 15 years. He was a gentle, kind, and good person, who valued your friendship and who loved to be generous. An amateur photographer, he took beautiful pictures of eagles, owls and other Catskill wildlife. He often gifted his framed photos, and many still adorn offices and homes throughout the area. If you see a lovely framed photograph of an eagle, it may well have been taken by Mike. Mike loved playing chess and pinochle. He appreciated very much members of his community who greeted him and talked to him and his dogs on sunny afternoons. The kindness of so many in the area meant a great deal to him, and he smiled whenever he recounted a kind word or deed done by another.
Surviving are his beloved fiance Nancy DiBartolo, two brothers Dan and Patrick, and friends and neighbors Laura Seltz, Ed Wilson and Ed _______.
A Memorial Service will be held at 903 Main St. Margaretville, home of the American Legion Post #216 Sunday, June 9 at 1PM. Private burial will be in the family plot at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Rt. 28 Allaben. Should you wish, contributions in Mike's memory may be made to the Heart of the Catskill's Animal Shelter. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E. B.
