Shokan-
Angelo R. Russo, 81, of Shokan, stayed strong with his two daughters for the past twelve months. He transitioned from this Earth to join his beloved wife and two sons on Monday December 19, 2022 at the HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston. He was born June 9, 1941 in Mineloa, NY son of the late Salvatore and Josephine Amendola Russo. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1959 to 1963. He continued his service having served as Past Commander of the American Legion Olive Memorial Post 1627. Angelo was a police officer in New Paltz for more than 20 years, and had previously served as a Town of Olive constable. He was a talented self-employed mechanic who worked on classic cars. He had been a member of various car clubs, including Reservoir Thunder. He had a strong sense of community and was a parishioner of St. John's Church, and an active volunteer as Life Member of the Olive Fire Department, and Past Captain of the Fire Police. Angelo was a well respected individual, and as patriarch of the family, valued a special loving relationship with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his daughters: Kimberly Anne (Dennis) Fisher, and Amanda (Chris) Winne. Grandchildren: Lorin Winne ( Gabrielle Rocha de Assis), Jared Fisher, Kathryn Fisher, Joshua Winne, and Courtney Winne (Brad Boyd). Brother: Anthony Betts, In-Laws: Douglas (Joan) Constanzo, and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Gail Constanzo Russo, sons: Craig and infant Brett, and brother Michael.
Friends will be received on Tuesday Dec. 27th from 3pm to 6pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday Dec. 28th at 11am at the Ashokan Rural Cemetery, Mountain Road, Shokan with Fr. Tom Kiely of St. John's & St. Francis de Sales Parish.
Donations may be made to the Olive Fire Dept. Box 1309 Olivebridge 12461 or the American Legion Box 286 Shokan 12481. Arrangements are under the direction of the E. B.
