Phoenicia-
Blanche M. Kirk, 81, of Phoenicia died suddenly August 14, 2024, in Kingston. Born on December 28, 1942, in Allaben, she was the daughter of the late John Miller and Mabel Gardner Miller.
She was a native and lifelong resident of the area, where she graduated from Onteora Central Schools. Blanche dedicated 29 years of her life as a school bus driver for Tonche Transit, a role she performed with unparalleled dedication and care. Known for her impeccable safety record, she was adored by both students and parents, having safely transported generations of families without ever experiencing an accident. Blanche retired in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of service that was truly appreciated by all who knew her. Blanche was a skilled artisan, particularly known for her beautiful crocheting. An avid reader, she found joy in the pages of a good book, which was only surpassed by the time she spent tending to her flower gardens. Her love for the color turquoise was evident in the vibrant touches that adorned her home and garden. Blanche's strength and independence were an inspiration to many. She was a proud member of the Shandaken Senior Citizens, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed to the community. Her faith-filled spirit guided her throughout her life.
She is survived by her son, Eric of VA; her daughter, Donna Chase of Lake Hill; her sister Anna Rogers of Saugerties; her brother, Glenn Miller; her grandson, Vincent Lombardi; and her great-grandchildren, Logan and Lydia. Blanche was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert "Albie" Kirk, and her daughter, Connie Kirk Betz.
A service to celebrate the life of Blanche will be held on Saturday at 12 noon with Rev. Ralph Merante officiating. Burial at the Shandaken Rural Cemetery. Friends will be received on Saturday morning from 10am to 12 noon prior to the service. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Shandaken Ambulance Squad.
