Carl Lumbaca, a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the age of 72 in Phoenicia. Born on September 5, 1952, in Kingston, Carl was a man whose love for his family and passion for the great outdoors were the cornerstones of his fulfilling life.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara Ahearn Lumbaca; his son, Jeremiah, and spouse, Mick Lumbaca; his granddaughter, Jessie Lumbaca; and his devoted sisters, Diane Lumbaca and Amada Joseph. He was predeceased by his parents, Amado and Frances Ostrander Lumbaca.
For more than three decades, Carl dedicated his career to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, retiring as the Operations Supervisor in 2010. His commitment to preserving the natural beauty of his home state was evident in both his professional endeavors and his personal hobbies. A lifetime resident of Phoenicia, Carl had an unparalleled appreciation for the beauty of nature that surrounded him.
An avid outdoorsman, Carl found joy in hunting, fishing the mountain brooks, and skiing the slopes of the Catskill Mountains. His love for these activities was infectious, and he often surrounded himself with friends and family to share in the adventure. Carl's laughter was a familiar echo in the valleys he treasured, and those who knew him will remember his warmth and the ease with which he welcomed others into his life.
Known for his reliability and generosity, Carl could always be counted on. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a good laugh, he was a source of comfort to those around him. His presence was a constant reminder of the joy that can be found in simple pleasures and the importance of cherishing the time we have with our loved ones. For the past fifteen years Carl and Barbara wintered in Florida, made many wonderful friends and many more special memories.
Carl Lumbaca's legacy is one of laughter, family, and friendship. He leaves behind a family that adores him, a community that misses him, and a world that is a little brighter because of his time here. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
