Craig Linet Obituary

SAUGERTIES            Craig Adam Linet, 49, died unexpectedly on March 19th,  2022, at his residence. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 5, 1973, he was the brilliant, first-born, red-headed child of Lois and Les Linet.

From start to finish, Craig was his own wonderfully distinct person. He was a quirky charmer with a clever and curious mind. As a young child, next-door neighbors described him as having “flaming hair and toothy grin.” He and his younger sister Valerie shared mutual delight as playmates during their early years.  Craig was said to be the only one who could send her into wild peals of laughter.

Craig’s intelligence was apparent from the start, and the brightness of his mind was literally off the standardized testing charts. Craig's life was not a straight line, however. At the age of 8, he was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, a neurologic disorder that caused physical tics which burdened his body and mind. Over the years there were many labels used to describe the challenges he faced, though none of them told the real story.  Craig was, and understood himself to be, a resilient person whose philosophy, personality, values, and sensitivity were shaped both by the gifts he received and difficulties he experienced. He attended Vassar College, where he studied computer science,  and he became a certified reiki master later in life.

Craig leaves a precious inheritance, which reminds us that: We are able to love without fixing or saving; We are whole, even when we suffer or think we might be broken; Humor is medicine and laughter is a courageous way to meet one’s own pain; Heart matters most...who we are is vaster than our thinking brains.

Besides his parents, survivors include sister Valerie Linet and brother-in-law Jeffrey Roberts, as well as step-mother Irene, aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides. There are also many friends, including dear ones from Japan, who lived in the Linet household and became part of the family.

Craig’s memorial service was held privately on March 25th. Arrangements were under the direction of the Gormley Funeral Home, Phoenica, NY. Expressions of condolence may be shared with Craig’s family on his Tribute Wall at www.GormleyFuneralHome.com.
