Daniel "Danny" Basalone, 80, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, in Margaretville. Born on March 4, 1944, in the Bronx, Danny was the son of the late Anthony and Connie Gionino Basalone. Danny grew up in a lively household alongside his siblings. He was predeceased by his sister Joann, and is survived by his devoted brothers, George (Margaret) Basalone and John (Rosa) Basalone. His legacy continues through his sons, Jason (Marissa) Basalone of Boiceville and Christopher (Erika) Basalone of Kerhonkson, and his adored grandsons, Stephan and Rocco, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. Danny was predeceased by his wife Stephanie in June of 2023. He was also blessed with supportive and dear friends which include Norma, Carla, and Dennis.
A man of service and community, Danny was formerly a volunteer of the Onteora Hose Co. in Mt. Tremper. He formerly worked at the NYS Thruway Authority and Rotron. Danny had many years of service at the Kingston City School District, specifically at the Sophie Finn Elementary School. Even after retirement, he continued to work by substituting with the non-teaching staff at the Onteora Central School.
Danny's love for nature and the great outdoors was unmistakable. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found solace and excitement in the beauty of the wilderness. His hands were rarely still, as he was always tinkering, fixing things, and undertaking landscaping projects that enhanced the beauty of his home. His green thumb was legendary, especially in his vegetable garden, where he grew produce that would make any foodie envious. He took great pleasure in cooking for family and friends. Always one to enjoy the simpler things in life, Danny loved having a dog as part of the family. His canine companions were a source of comfort, friendship, and countless happy memories. Danny's presence was a gift to those around him. The Basalone family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have been a part of Danny's journey. His life was a tapestry of love, friendship, and service, and he will be remembered as a man who lived fully and loved generously.
His funeral procession will form on Friday at 10:30am at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia, thence to the St. Francis de Sales Church where at 11am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial in the family plot at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm at the E. B.
