Big Indian -
Debra J. Perez, 66, of Big Indian, NY, passed away peacefully, August 10th, 2023, at home surrounded by family. She was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (Behavioral Variant) in 2020. She was born on June 23rd, 1957 to the late Gerald and Loretta Stegner of Freeport, NY. She was also predeceased by her sister, Lauri Stegner.
Originally from Freeport, NY, she was a graduate of Freeport High School. She worked for Grand Union as a bookkeeper. She moved to Big Indian in ‘81 and ran the Big Indian Service Center with her husband for 40 years. She was a 40 year life member and treasurer of the Big Indian Oliverea Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, and was a treasurer for the Big Indian Oliverea Fire Co. Commissioners.
Debra loved walking, traveling, photography, playing cards, playing Dominos, bowling, camping, skiing, enjoyed time spent at the beach, swimming and boogie boarding. She was always there to watch her children play sports and was quite skilled at arts and crafts.
Survived by her husband, Charles (Chuck) Perez, son, Brian Perez (Gina), daughter, Cassie Perez (Cody Brueckner), two grandchildren, Eric and Tara Perez, brother Mark Stegner (Teresa), sister, Theresa Berry (Nate), and several nieces and nephews.
A Service by the Big Indian-Oliverea Ladies Auxillary will be held on Thursday evening at 7pm, followed by a Word of Prayer by the Hospice Chaplain at the GLENBROOK PARK PAVILLION RT. 42 SHANDAKEN. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the GLENBROOK PARK PAVILLION. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11am at the Greenfield Cemetery , Uniondale Long Island.
