Dennis B. Havel, passed away on May 21, 2025, at the age of 76 in Woodland Valley. Born on September 24, 1948, in Detroit, Dennis's life was marked by his dedication to service. Dennis served his country as a member of the US Army, where his bravery and commitment were recognized through numerous awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Badge, and Aircraft Crewman Badge. He also earned the distinction of Rifle Sharpshooter, a testament to his skill and precision.

After his honorable military service, Dennis returned to his hometown of Detroit, where he embarked on a distinguished career in law enforcement with the Detroit Police Department. His years of dedicated service to the community reflected his unwavering commitment to justice and public safety. Following his time with the police department, Dennis pursued his love for aviation by operating a flight school in Pontiac, Michigan. As a licensed pilot, he shared his knowledge and passion for flying with countless students, inspiring a new generation of aviators.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dennis was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, a loyalty that mirrored his steadfast character. His love for reading allowed him to explore worlds beyond his own, while his hands were skilled in building and fixing things. Dennis was also a talented woodworker and luthier, a craftsman who poured his heart into hand-crafting guitars. His musical talents extended to playing the banjo, guitar, and even the saw blade, enchanting audiences with local performances that showcased his diverse abilities.

Dennis's legacy is carried on by his daughter, Betsy Northup of Maine, and grandchildren, Alexander and Edward. He was predeceased by his son, Brian Havel, and brothers Terry, Bill, and Jim.

Those who knew Dennis will remember him as a man of honor, and strength.  He was a source of wisdom, and laughter, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had known him.  His story is one of courage, both in the face of adversity and in the pursuit of his dreams.
