West Shokan-
Donald G. McDonald, 93, of West Shokan died Monday September 13, 2021 at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck. He was born November 25, 1927 in Weehawken, NJ son of the late Henry and Ethel McDonald. Donald had been a plant manager for American Packing Company in Jersey City, NJ and retired from Alpak Manufacturing in Montgomery, NY. His enjoyment of nature and the beauty that surrounded him, allowed him time to tend the flower gardens, carefully landscape the property, and formerly spend time stream fishing. He enjoyed jazz music, and would tell you about his trip to New Orleans for some great jazz. Donald's gregarious personality allowed him to meet new people, and leave a lasting impression on them. As patriarch, he was focused on family, and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his daughters: Patricia McDonald, Kathleen (Charles) Garrett, Aileen McDonald, Lynne McDonald, Laura (Gary) Freer, and Sharon (George) Wood. Nine grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren also survive.
A graveside memorial service will be held privately at the family plot in the Mt. Pleasant Rural Cemetery. You may share a special memory or condolence with the family on Donald's Tribute Wall at gormleyfuneralhome.com The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Rescue Squad. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia.
