Doris "DJ" Uhoda

Doris Uhoda, a beacon of faith and generosity, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at the age of 91 in Woodstock, embraced by the love of her family and the community she cherished. Born on November 27, 1933, in Brooklyn, Doris was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Doris Phillipsen Janicki. She was the devoted wife of the late Tom Uhoda, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage until his passing in 2017.

Doris's passion for knowledge led her to the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD, where she earned a Bachelor's of Science in Biology. Her love for learning never waned throughout her life, as she remained an avid reader and a seeker of wisdom. Doris's spirited commitment to her Christian faith was evident to all who knew her. She was a long-standing and active parishioner of St. Vincent Martyr in Madison, NJ, where she served with humility and love as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Spiritual Director. Her involvement extended to teaching CCD classes, volunteering in the Religious Education Office, and participating in the Pre-Cana Marriage Preparation and Marriage Encounter Programs.

Alongside her husband, Doris volunteered with the Madison Music Association, sharing her love of music and community. Her vibrant personality was drawn to bright colors and the simple beauty of violets, which she enjoyed despite her self-professed lack of a green thumb. Doris's spirit of service also shone through her active support of the Covenant House Auxiliary for youth in Madison, reflecting her deep commitment to the well-being of others.

Those who knew Doris will remember her as a faith-filled and loving woman, whose generosity knew no bounds. She was a great listener, offering care and attention to family members as they aged, and was firm when needed, always providing guidance with a gentle hand. Her strong sense of community and spiritual depth touched many lives, leaving a legacy of kindness and compassion.

She will remain fiercely loved in the hearts of her four children and their spouses: Richard Uhoda, Matthew and Susan Uhoda, Christine and Kevin Day, Dr. Teresa and David Foster, her grandchildren Ryan Rymsza, Olivia Rymsza, Daniel and Emma Foster, Sophia and Ryan Pecoraro, Jude Foster, Sean Foster, Emma Uhoda, Samantha Rymsza, John Uhoda and Matthew Uhoda and her two great grandchildren, Myla Laurenzi and Shiloh Rymsza.

A Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Vincent Martyr in Madison, NJ at 10am on January 10, 2026.  Interment in the St. Vincent's Cemetery. Doris Uhoda will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and comfort those who were blessed to know her.
