Dorothy Borden Obituary

Pine Hill-

In South Glens Falls, just shy of 102 on June 21, 2025, Dorothy E. Borden left to be with the Lord. She takes with her all the energy and love that she shared in this world and leaves those remaining with nothing but wonderful memories. Dorothy was a preemie baby in 1923. Not expected to live she went on to marry Franklyn R. Borden and together had 5 daughters Gale Borden, Karen Borden, Cheryl  Gardner (Larry), Cindy Ross (Shane), Kim Fienemann ( James), 10 grand children, 16 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren to date.
She grew up in a time of kerosene lamps, outhouses, horse and buggy and party line phones. She lost a band mate to the Pearl Harbor Invasion, a day that delayed her wedding. She lived in big cities and, for one summer, a cabin at the foot of a fire tower not big enough for a bed. She and Frankie dismantled a barn on her family farm, straightened the nails, reconfigured the boards and built their first home which still stands today.
She was a descendant of the Mayflower pilgrims which may explain why she was such a woman of adventure. She traveled to 49 of the 50 states missing only Kentucky which bothered her. She bought a car, a Chevy Spark, that her great nephew had designed. She was proud of the gas mileage she got with it. Along with her own children she was foster Mom to many children. She cooked and cleaned to get her children through college. She touched many lives along the way especially those who walked through the school lunch line in Phoenicia Elementary School.
After her beloved Frank passed in 1982 she kept working and traveling. She toured the western US states in a red convertible, walked on an Alaskan glacier and at 101 sailed the waters of Lake George. She stayed sharp until the end even attending a Tait family reunion two weeks before her passing where she regaled the younger folks with stories of their families they didn’t know or had forgotten. She communicated by Facebook with her friends and family and was pretty savvy with her online wisdom, even though it was ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS. She loved life, loved others and will be fondly remembered by all.

A Graveside Service at the family plot will be held 11am on Tuesday July 1, 2025 at the New Kingston Cemetery.  You may share a special memory, photo, or condolence with the family on Dorothy's Tribute Wall at www.gormleyfuneralhome.com  Funeral arrangements under the direction of the E.
