Douglas Christopher Kadow, known to all as Doug, passed away suddenly on April 7, 2026,
in Haines Falls at the age of 63. Born on September 6, 1962, in North Tarrytown, NY, and
raised in Irvington, NY. He lived a life marked by curiosity, creativity, hard work, and a deep
appreciation for the people and places around him.
Doug was the beloved husband of Michele for 37 years, and the devoted and proud father
of “Badass Cass.”. He was also a loving bonus father to Richie Berger of Gilboa, NY and
Max Howard of Binghamton, NY. Doug is also survived by cousins Mari and Jimmy
Delaney, and his two buff colored tabby cats Momo and Mimi. He was predeceased by his
grandparents Amelia and Victor Clump of the Bronx, and his parents, Ruth and Howard
Kadow, whose memory remained an important part of his life. Additionally, he was
predeceased by his cats Tuffy, Whiskers, Roxy, Belby, Maggie, and China. Doug’s family
was at the center of his world, and he was known for his steady presence, his generosity,
and the many ways he showed up for the people he loved.
Doug spent 28 years as an area resident of the Catskill Mountains, becoming a familiar and
respected part of the community. He called Roxbury, NY his home for 26 years. He enjoyed
reading, writing, drawing, building his house, history, art, and concerts. He was a lifelong
follower of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia, and that music remained part of the
soundtrack of his life. He saw over 250 shows throughout his lifetime. He graduated Class
of 1980 from Irvington High School and Class of 1985 School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New
York City with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. In college he did lights for the Feds at the
Fore 'n' Aft in White Plains, NY.
He worked as a tech consultant in many avenues, including Customer Experience (CX),
Digital Transformation (DX), Workflow Automation, and other aspects of digital Business
Development. Some of his favorite jobs over his long career were for AICPA, Avaya, and
Dimension Data where he was Senior Business Development Manager. He was widely
regarded as a jack-of-all-trades. He was skilled in carpentry and he approached each
project with practicality, patience, and a willingness to help. He was also a talented graphic
artist whose creativity extended into many areas of his life. Whether he was solving a
problem, building something from the ground up, or lending his expertise to a project, Doug
brought both skill and heart to the work he did.
Doug had a strong affinity for maps, books, and the sense of adventure they inspired. He
loved traveling, rail fanning with his family and friends, exploring new places, and following
the roads less traveled. He appreciated the beauty of nature and found peace in camping,
hiking, and spending time in the great outdoors. He also took great pride in his ponytail,
which he has been growing for the past two years. He even went so far as to match his hair
ties to his outfit every day. His travels and outdoor pursuits reflected his independent spirit
and his deep respect for the world around him.
He was deeply interested in history and community heritage. Doug served as President of
the Ulster & Delaware Railroad Historical Society and ran the Roxbury Depot Museum,
where his wife, Michele, and daughter, Cassidy often volunteered. He was a host and
conductor for the Delaware and Ulster Railroad in Arkville, NY. He was involved in these
two organizations for over 20 years. Doug gave talks and presentations on all of the railroad
history throughout the Catskill Mountains. He was involved in the Westchester Model
Railroad Club in White Plains, NY from when he was a kid, later becoming President. Of
late he was starting to get involved with the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Rondout,
Kingston, NY continuing his lifelong habit of learning and interest.
One of his joys in life was seeing his daughter, a professional drummer, play in all her
bands. He designed merch, and did sound lighting for many shows in Cass’s first band
Common Ground. This is where he met his adopted bonus son Richie, who was playing
guitar for the band. Cass and Richie went onto to play with the band Evvergreen, for which
Doug created the band’s logo, and artwork for all of their merch. Doug and Michele happily
traveled anywhere they could to see Cass play whether it was a local show in the Hudson
valley, or an out of state show in Boston. Most recently, he was excited to plan a trip out to
Ohio where Cass lives with her girlfriend, Melanie to meet Mel’s five-year-old daughter Alex
and see Cass’s latest music endeavors. He was a constant presence with Cass’s music
career, always ready with encouragement, support, and an offer to assist in any way he
could. His love of music was matched by his love of family, and those who knew him will
remember the warmth and enthusiasm he brought to both.
Doug will be remembered for his many talents, his generous spirit, and the love he shared
with his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resourcefulness, and
devotion that will continue to be felt by all who knew him. There will be a memorial service
for all on Saturday May 2, 2026 from 2pm to 4pm at the U & D Haines Falls Station grounds. Light refreshments will be available, and casual attire is preferred. Mountain Top Historical Society, 5132 Route 23A, Haines Falls, NY 12436
