West Shokan-
Douglas S. Downie, 58, of West Shokan died Wednesday January 4, 2023 at Westchester Medical Center. He was born April 4, 1964 in Ramapo, NY son of the late William and Patricia Carberry Downie. An area resident for over thirty years, Doug was an iron worker for American Jail Products. He was a member of the US Army National Guard for over 20 years and was awarded the New York State Defense of Liberty Medal for his deployment on 9/11 to the World Trade Center. He had been a member of the Olive Memorial American Legion Post 1627 in Shokan, and was very proud of his decades of service. Doug appreciated nature, and was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had an interest in classic muscle cars, however he valued family over all else.
Surviving are his wife Holly Knowles Downie, son: Hunter Downie of Binghamton, stepdaughter Kirby Karaffa, brother William Downie, and 3 grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by his brother Wade Downie, and stepfather Walter Wiegan.
A service to celebrate the life of Doug will be held at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia on Saturday at 2pm. Friends will be received prior to the service from 12 noon till 2 pm
