West Shokan-
Edward Stevens, 77 of West Shokan died Sunday November 29, 2020 at his residence. He was born August 9, 1943 in Suffern, NY son of the late Edward and Barbara Nelson Stevens. An area resident since 1973, Ed was employed as an oil burner service technician with Heritage Energy Co. for over twenty years. He rescued many a customer with a no-heat complication. Ed was a life member of the Olive Fire Department having served as past chief, and currently volunteering with the Fire Police responsibilities. He was honorably discharged from the US Army having served from 1961 to 1967. He furthered his service with membership in the Shokan American Legion Post. Ed was a talented story teller, who enjoyed making people laugh, and was an avid NY Giants fan. He was a 'weather watcher' for the National Weather Service, and he spent time fishing and tinkering with things on the property.
Surviving are his son Patrick Stevens and his wife Alicia Civiok of Pleasant Valley, 2 grandchildren: Eamon and Cora Stevens, sister Kate Nelsen of Unadilla, and special friend Susie Cusher of Glasco. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 2010, and sister Laura Walker.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Fire Department or the Olive Free Library. Face covering are required and social distancing may limit capacity .
