Elaine Shultis - Van de Bogart - Ostrander

Elaine Marie Shultis Van de Bogart Ostrander, 83, died Friday April 4, 2025 in Saugerties.  She was born in Kingston on Sept 6, 1941 daughter of the late Raye Leon Shultis and Ethel Mae Elliot Shultis. Elaine grew up on a small farm in the hamlet of Bearsville , town of Woodstock, NY.  She attended the one room school house in Bearsville until the Onteora Central School District opened in the Fall of 1952 and she entered as a 6th grader.  The Onteora CSD became, and remained the center of Elaine's life.  She graduated in 1959 and went directly to work as a secretary at Onteora.  Elaine married Aaron Van de Bogart III in 1960 and is survived by her two children: daughter Melanie (Joe) Ahouse, granddaughter Erin (Vinnie) Santonja, and great granddaughter Reagan.  A son: Gregory (LeighAnn) Van de Bogart and grandson Colvin. She took ten years off from her job at OCS when her children were little.  Elaine and Aaron were married for 25 years, raising their children, fixing up homes, and building a beautiful home in Mt. Tremper.  In the Summer of 1993 Elaine was blessed to marry her second husband Alfred Ostrander.  She moved to Willow to live for the next 25 years happily married to Al.  Elaine had a 'nack' for fixing up and decorating homes and she loved re-modeling Al's home, continuing to work at Onteora, and going home to have a glass of wine, make dinner, and catch up with Al.  Elaine often told people that Al was her best friend.  Al took very good care of her as her Alzheimer's became apparent.  Elaine retired from OCS after forty years of loving her job.  Al predeceased Elaine in March 2019.  Elaine lived at Ivy Lodge in Saugerties for the past six years.  We can  not express in words how much we appreciate the administration, the nurses, and the aides at Ivy Lodge.  Our heartfelt thanks also extends to the Hudson Valley Hospice for being a part of Elaine's life for the last four months.  Elaine is also survived by her sister Janet Clancy of Tenbroeck Commons, two brothers: Dayton (Karen) Shultis of Kearney, NE and Dean (Robin) Shultis of Shokan.  Several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews also survive.
