Fred W Jaeck

Fred W. Jaeck, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in West Shokan on July 8, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Born on December 7, 1934, in Ridgewood, Queens, Fred's life was marked by his devotion to his family, his passion for the outdoors, and his remarkable mechanical skills.

Fred, known affectionately as "the man who could fix anything," dedicated over 35 years to the New York Telephone Company as an installer. His work, particularly at 100 Church Street in New York City, was instrumental in maintaining vital communications for the American Stock Exchange. His commitment to his craft was only matched by his commitment to his colleagues, as evidenced by his long-standing membership with the Communications Workers of America as a Telecom Pioneer.

He also spent eight years serving his country as a radio operator in the United States Naval Reserves. This gave him the opportunity to see the world. He always enjoyed retelling stories from this time of service.

An area resident since 1965, Fred's love for nature was paralleled by his active involvement in several organizations. He was a member of the Bushkill Rod & Gun Club, a charter member of the Forest Rod & Gun Club, and a proud member of Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, and the NRA. His support of the Arbor Day Foundation and Tunnels to Towers Foundation reflected his deep respect for nature and our nation's heroes and their families.

Fred's hands on inclination shined brightly in his ability to wire houses, frame walls, pour foundations and fix mechanical systems such as vehicles and tractors. His hands were rarely still, always working on a project or finding ways to improve the tools and machines around him. This passion for hands on projects was a thread that ran through his entire life, bringing joy to him and those who benefited from his expertise.

 A man of faith and community, Fred was a member of the Tadmor Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge in Queens for six decades. His brethren recently honored him by naming him Honorary Chaplain in 2025, a testament to his unwavering dedication and service.

Fred's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Jaeck-Fisher of Saugerties, Jill Jaeck Triana of California, Gale Jaeck-Quick of Olivebridge, his son, Edward Jaeck of Minnesota and seven loving grandchildren. Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie, in 2021, and his parents, Ernst and Dora Knobel Jaeck. His family remembers him as a pillar of strength, love, and wisdom, whose legacy will live on through them.

 Those who knew Fred will fondly recall his enjoyment of sitting on his front porch, waving to passersby, and sharing stories with neighbors.
