Obituary

Chichester-

Grant Benjamin Gilsinger, 91 of Chichester died peacefully at home with his family on Friday August 11, 2023.  He was born November 29, 1931 in Saugerties, son of the late Ada Hill and Maurice Crotty, and raised by his mother and stepfather Walter Gilsinger.  He was a native and life long area resident.  He honorably served in the US Army from 1952-1954 and had earned sharpshooter bars for his excellence.  Grant started his working career as a mechanic at the Woodstock Garage, and retired after seventeen years with the N.Y.S. Dept. of Transportation.  He appreciated the beauty and splendor of nature, and was skilled at hunting, camping, and the maintenance of several yards with his lawn tractor.  He had been a league bowler, enjoyed watching old westerns,  and was an avid fan of the NY Yankees.

Surviving are his children: Jeff Gilsinger of Big Indian, CarolKennedy of Shokan, and Joseph Gilsinger of Chichester.  A sister Anita All, 2 grandchildren Ted Gilsinger, and Wynter Kennedy, 3 great grandchildren: Kaylee Hope, Ewan Grant, and Killian Elliot.  He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Hope Gilsinger in 2008, and an infant daughter Susan.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 4pm to 6pm at the E.  B.  Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia.  A private interment will take place Monday at the family plot in the Woodstock Cemetery.  The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to www.hvhospice.org or the Shandaken Ambulance Squad.  You may share a special memory, photo, or condolence on Grant's Tribute Wall at www.gormleyfuneralhome.com
