Helena Grant of Romer St. Phoenicia died peacefully at home on Saturday August 6, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She was born September 9, 1934 in Germany, daughter of the late Gertrude Falkenberg. She had been an area resident for nearly 50 years. She enjoyed walks through town, and greeting her neighbors. She was of tough German stock, who was energetic and known for her integrity. She enjoyed eating out, and ice cream treats. Helena made trips to Germany, had a gift for story telling, and had been known to shoo a black bear or two away from her kitchen door with a broom! She had a green thumb with her porch flowers, enjoyed watching the hummingbirds dart about the dancing flowers, and had a reputation for cooking German dishes. She was predeceased by her husband Louis Grant in 1999.
Surviving are her daughters: Gabriel Moyette of W. Shokan, and Barbara (Stephen) Jameson of Shokan. A son Lothar Falkenberg (Carola Fromm) of Germany, sister: Elizabeth Rumery of CO, brother Joseph (Doris) Hoff of Germany, and Sister-in-law Elise Persons of OH. She was predeceased by a son Jerry. Also surviving Grandchildren: Danny Grant, Heather (Glenn) Eighmey, and Ian (Lindsey) Jameson and a great-granddaughter Helena and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received Thursday from 11am to 1pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. A service to Celebrate the Life of Helena will begin at 1pm followed by Burial at the Mt. Pleasant Rural Cemetery.
