Herbert C Hamilton Sr.

Herbert C. Hamilton Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at home in Olivebridge. Born on January 10, 1938, in Kingston, Herb was a man whose life was marked by service, dedication, and the love of his family. He was the son of the late Harold Brown and Anna Hamilton and is survived by his life partner of thirty years, Erna Marchand and their beloved dog, CoCoa.

Herb's legacy is carried on by his children: Tammy, Linda, Nichole, Herbert, and Gregory and their children, including his beloved youngest granddaughter Annalysse. He also leaves behind his bonus family: Jennifer Brueckner, Todd and Scott Marchand, and their spouses as well as many grandchildren, including Hailey and Calista, who were especially dear to him, and three great-grandchildren. Herb was predeceased by his brother, William and his bonus grandson, Corbin, who was and remains a treasured memory in the family's hearts.

A proud veteran, Herb dedicated twenty years of his life to the United States Navy, serving from 1955 to 1975. As a machinist mate, he showed exceptional skill and commitment, with his final duty assignment on the USS America. His service took him across the globe, from the shores of Africa to the islands of the Philippines and the historic city of Beirut-Lebanon. Herb's naval career was highlighted by his crossing of the Equator, where he earned the esteemed title of Shellback during the traditional Crossing the Line Ceremony.

Following his military career, Herb continued to apply his machinist skills at Dyno Nobel in Port Ewen, where he worked for twenty-two years. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his commitment to his fellow veterans. As a past Commander of the Woodstock Veterans of Foreign Wars, Herb was a respected figure in the community, always ready to lend a hand or share a word of support with his comrades.

Herb's love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He found solace and joy in nature, whether he was hunting, fishing, or simply taking in the beauty of the world around him. An avid sports fan, Herb never missed a chance to root for his favorite teams, the New York Mets and the Jets, embodying the true spirit of a loyal supporter through thick and thin.

Known for his hardworking nature, Herb was the kind of individual who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. His generosity and kindness left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to cross his path.
