Irene Tabler Obituary

Glenford-

Irene S. Tabler, a cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024 at Vassar Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, at the age of 91. Born on June 1, 1933, in Stavanger, Norway, Irene was the beloved daughter of the late Sverre Sjursen and Borghild Hansen Sjursen. Her journey brought her across the ocean to the United States when she was just two years old, and she planted her roots and flourished in the Catskill Mountains for over seven decades.

Irene's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her work. She is survived by 4 children; Vicky (Robert) Tabler-Cross, Debra Gremer, Joseph (Phyllis) Tabler Jr, and Betty Rivera. Four Grandchildren Bo, Kurt Jr, Caitlyn and Amanda.  Three Great Grandchildren as well as many Nieces,  Nephews and Cousins in Norway.

Her heart held a special place for her late husband, Joseph, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and love. She was also preceded in death by her brother Karl Sjursen and her son-in-law Thomas Rivera, both of whom she remembered with deep affection.

Professionally, Irene was a dedicated employee who took pride in her work. She spent years contributing her skills to E. G. & G. Rotron Manufacturing in Shokan, and her career also included meaningful roles at Golden Hill, Simulaids, and Woodstock Chimes. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident to all who knew her.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Irene was a woman of many passions. Her flower gardens were a testament to her love for beauty and nature, each bloom nurtured by her caring hands. An avid reader, she found solace and adventure within the pages of countless books, her imagination taking her to places far and wide. Irene's focus, however, always returned to her family, and she played an integral role in raising her family and contributing to the success of the family farm.

Music and dance were sources of joy for Irene. Her home was often filled with the sound of records playing on the record player, as she danced with a grace that matched the melodies. Her love for animals, especially her feline companions, was yet another reflection of her compassionate spirit.

Irene's legacy is one of love, resilience, and the simple pleasures of life. Her family will forever cherish the memories of her unwavering support, her gentle guidance, and the countless moments of happiness she created. Her spirit, a blend of Norwegian heritage and the heart of an American dreamer, will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her and feel the warmth of her presence.
