Jack Barnett

Jack L. Barnett, aged 93, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in Lake Katrine, having lived a life marked by dedication, intellect, and open minded fairness. Born on December 24, 1931, in New York City, Jack was the son of the late Sydney and Lillian Vetterman Barnett. He was a man who not only served his country but also cultivated a community through his professional and personal endeavors.

Jack's education began in earnest at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, where he earned his Bachelor's of Arts degree. He next attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, followed by studies at the New York University Business School. His education laid a strong foundation for what would become a noteworthy career.

A U.S. Navy Veteran, Jack served our country as a crypto communications officer on the battleship Wisconsin. His service was a testament to his character: disciplined, structured, and always ready to contribute to a cause greater than himself. After his military service, Jack embarked on a professional path that saw him become a Long Term Forecaster for Trans World Airlines, a role that benefited from his keen analytical mind and meticulous attention to detail.

In 1970, Jack's entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate the Trail Nursery on Rt. 28 in Boiceville. For 38 years, he was the heart and soul of the nursery, transforming it into a local landmark known for its quality and charm. Jack made the nursery not just a store, but a place where people could find guidance and inspiration for their own gardens and landscapes.

His intelligence was matched by his warmth and the care he showed to those around him. Jack was predeceased by his partner of 34 years, Philip Anthony, in 2018. The two shared a rich life filled with mutual respect.

Jack will be sorely missed by those who knew him well and cared for him in his later years.
