Phoenicia-
James Stanley Brooks of New York and Phoenicia, NY passed away on March 11, 2026 in Phoenicia, NY.
James was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 12, 1970, to James O. and Maria Z. Brooks. He received BS in Computer Science from Villanova University, and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
His career as a programmer included time at a startup in the Bay Area; in Rome, where he worked for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization; and New York, where he worked for Numerix (formerly PolyPaths) for over 20 years. At the time of his death, he was director and head of distributed processing at Numerix.
Throughout his life, James was a frequent traveler, whether by plane, train, car, or motorcycle—a particular favorite. In his later years, James’s time was divided between Manhattan and Phoenicia. In Manhattan, he could often be found exploring the city’s many restaurants, shows, karaoke spots, and museums with friends. In Phoenicia, James also cherished his time with his uncle Stanislaw (Stan) Zagorski.
A gathering to share stories and celebrate the life of James will take place on Saturday April 18th from 3pm to 6pm at 49 Main Street Phoenicia - www.bettinacafe.com
