Jonathan M. Baldwin, known to family and friends as Jon, passed away on April 5, 2026, in Big Indian, New York, at the age of 74.
Born on January 29, 1952, in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Charles and Elsie Johanson Baldwin. Jon carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, curiosity, and quiet kindness that were evident to all who knew him. He built a life marked by dedication to his family, his profession, and the natural world he so deeply loved.
Jon was the beloved husband of Katherine Ellen Stringer. He was a devoted father to Allison Baldwin Klein and her husband Joseph, and to Charles Baldwin and his wife Renee. He also embraced his stepchildren, Meghan Mooney and Gwyneth Mooney and her husband Mark, with warmth and care. His grandson Cody Klein and a step grandson Graham Mooney. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Regenberg, his brother, Craig Baldwin, and his faithful four-legged companion, Jackie. In addition to his immediate family, Jon leaves behind many friends and colleagues who will remember him with affection and respect.
Jon spent much of his professional life as an Applications Engineer for Marubeni Citizen-Cincom, Inc., a role in which he earned a reputation for skill, reliability, and deep technical knowledge. Over the course of approximately thirty years, he traveled extensively around the world in service to his work, sharing his expertise and representing his company with professionalism and pride. His career reflected both his intelligence and his willingness to meet challenges with patience and determination.
A part-time resident of the area since 2004, Jon became a full-time resident six years ago, and he found great peace in the beauty of the region he called home. He was an avid hiker and backpacking enthusiast who took genuine joy in the outdoors and in the changing seasons. Nature was a source of comfort and inspiration to him, and he appreciated its quiet beauty with a thoughtful and grateful spirit.
Jon was also a prolific reader whose curiosity extended far beyond his work. He loved to travel, both for business and for pleasure, and he embraced the adventure and discovery that came with seeing new places. He had a deep affection for animals, a practical talent for fixing machinery, and a generous willingness to lend a hand when something needed attention. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his capable nature, and the many ways he contributed to the lives around him.
He was also an active volunteer with the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and its annual festivals, where he gave his time in support of a cause that reflected his love of the environment and his appreciation for community involvement.
