Shandaken-
Manuel "Manny" Martins, 89 of Shandaken died Saturday August 26, 2023 at his residence. He was born December 21, 1933 in New Bedford, MA son of the late Antonio and Mary Rocha Martins. He lived in the Catskill area for the past 45 years. Manny enjoyed his seafood festivals at the Jersey shore, the Midway on the Boardwalk with sausage peppers and onions, KFC and Popeye chicken challenge, Hanks Franks hot dogs and yes he enjoyed his food as long as it was no frills. He was an owner operator trucker going across the country and went through almost every state while doing so. He loved the freedom of driving and nothing made him happier than seeing his son and grandson take after him in the family business. He was a big Elvis fan and loved dancing (when he had two legs) and boy could he dance. Manny was a big sports fan and actually was offered a draft by the Chicago White Sox out of high school but turned it down to serve the country from 1952 - 1956 in the US Navy.
Surviving are his wife Waneitta Billadeau Martins, children: Janine Martins Shannon, Debra, Donna, Brenda, Rolland Billadeau, and Bonnie Ford. Ten grand children and 8 great grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by his son Brian, and brother Jack.
