Marjorie Himber Obituary

Marjorie "Honey" Himber, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, in Margaretville, at the age of 94. Born on February 4, 1930, in Chichester, she was the beloved daughter of the late Karl and Viva Maben Fichtner. Honey lived a full and vibrant life, marked by her adventurous spirit and her ability to lead and inspire those around her.

Honey's early years in Chichester were filled with the love and camaraderie of a close-knit family. She grew up alongside her siblings, forging bonds that would last a lifetime. Her sisters, Jean Fichtner Pierce of Shandaken and Dalores Russell of Saugerties, remember her as a beacon of strength and joy within the family. Honey fully appreciated the unwavering support of her advocate, Bill Fichtner, and she held a special place in the hearts of her many nieces and nephews. Honey was predeceased by her devoted husband, Col. Sheldon Himber, in 2006, her brother "Bunk" Karl Jr., and her niece Cathy, all of whom she remembered with love and fondness.

Professionally, Honey was a formidable presence in the hospitality industry, working in a managerial capacity for Holiday Inn across Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Florida. Her career was characterized by her exceptional leadership skills and her ability to bring out the best in her teams. Honey's work ethic and dedication to her profession were evident to all who worked with her, and she left a lasting impact on the industry.

Honey's personal life was as rich and fulfilling as her professional one. She had a passion for flower gardening, and her orchids were a particular source of pride and pleasure. Her green thumb brought beauty to her surroundings and joy to those who experienced her gardens. Alongside her husband, she embarked on memorable voyages, such as sailing on the QE II back from England, which reflected her love for travel and exploration.

An avid golfer, Honey achieved the remarkable feat of a Hole-in-One at the Halifax Plantation Golf Course in Florida. This accomplishment was a testament to her skill and determination, and it was a moment of great pride for her. Honey's approach to life was that of a "take charge" individual, and this trait shone through in everything she did, from her professional endeavors to her hobbies and her relationships with family and friends.

Honey's legacy is one of love, leadership, and a zest for life that touched everyone she met. Her absence will be deeply felt by those who knew her, yet her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. As we say goodbye to Marjorie "Honey" Himber, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of accomplishments, adventures, and heartfelt connections.

Honey's life will be commemorated in a graveside gathering at 11am Wednesday Oct. 2nd at the Family Plot in the Oliverea Cemetery, where her family and friends will honor her memory and the indelible mark she left on their lives. Her journey on this earth has ended, but the stories, laughter, and love she shared will forever remain with us. Honey's passing is a time for gratitude for the time we were privileged to share with such an extraordinary woman.   You may share a special memory, photo, or condolence with the family on Honey's Tribute Wall at www.gormleyfuneralhome.com
