Oluf Pinks Obituary

Phoenicia-

Oluf Pinks, born on June 12, 1937, in Wyk auf Fohr, Germany, son of the late Karl Friedrich Albert Pinks and Lonnie Maria Wilhelmina Ida Pinks, passed away on May 31, 2026, in Shandaken following a sudden cardiac event.

Oluf made his home in the area for more than 50 years and became a familiar and cherished presence to many. He was a self-employed landscaping artist and garden professional whose work reflected both skill and devotion. He was widely respected in his field and took great pride in every project he completed. With an appreciation for the beauty of nature and a deep love of working outdoors, he brought care, creativity, and a steady hand to the landscapes he shaped throughout his long career.

A true people person, Oluf enjoyed the many conversations and stories shared with his large customer base. He valued the connections he formed through his work and daily life. His presence left a lasting impression on those who knew him, not only for his professional abilities but also for his spirit and genuine interests.

Oluf enjoyed travel both within the United States and abroad, and he especially valued the time he spent visiting family in Germany. He also maintained a home in Florida for the winter months, where he found comfort and enjoyment in seasonal living. Among his favorite pastimes was the flea market experience, where he had the opportunity to mingle with people and enjoy the lively atmosphere. He was also a member of the Phoenicia Rotary for decades, reflecting his long-standing connection to the community and his commitment to fellowship and service.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Pinks; his son, Oliver, and Oliver’s wife, Nadine Pinks, of Abu Dhabi, UAE; and his grandson, Gavin. Family was an important part of Oluf’s life, and he treasured the bonds he shared with those closest to him. He carried his love of family with him throughout his life, and his memory will remain a source of comfort and pride to them.

Oluf Pinks will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his appreciation of nature, his love of travel, and the way he connected with people from all walks of life. He lived a full and meaningful life marked by hard work, friendship, and a sincere enjoyment of the world around him. His legacy lives on in the beauty he helped create, and the many lives he touched over the years.
