Paul Perez Obituary

Paul C. Perez, 86, of Ava Maria Drive died Thursday May 23, 2019 at the Mountainside Care Center in Margaretville.  He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Siera during the Korean War.  He was a Life member of the American Legion, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, and active in his church. Before he left Long Island on 1978 he was an active member and past Captian of Excelsior Truck 1 of the Freeport Fire Dept. Also a member of the Dead End Kids drill team and life member of the fire departments  Exempts Benevolent Association also FASNY. Paul was a skilled steam fitter for the Union Local in N.Y.C. Growing up in Freeport, as a youth Paul was involved in the sea Scouts where he earned a life-saving medal for helping  a drowning neighbor. Paul liked to race boats around the South Shore of Long Island winning his last race in his last year of eligibility. He played the drums in school band and in the service. He also played baseball and and softball as a catcher. Paul was a Boy Scout Troop leader, a Methodist youth Fellowship chaperone and a organizer and coach for the Elks youth bowling program. Leaving Long Island and moving to Jordan, New York he stayed for 40 years he was involved in the Belle Isle Church. He continued to be an avid bowler. Always remembering his friends Paul was active and participating in his ships reunions up until last year. Paul never forgot his brothers at the Freeport Fire Department and continued to support thier activities long after leaving. Paul was always proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren he did his best to be apart of their growing up. Surviving are several cousins his son Chuck and his wife Debbie Perez of Big Indian, Grandchildren : Brian Perez, Cassie Perez, Jamie Lee, and Laura D'Mello. He also has three Great Grandchildren Christian, Krystal and Dante. He was predeceased by his parents Louise M. Perez and Paul A. Perez an infant sister Michelle a son James, and his ex wife Doris Taylor Ehrhart, and wife Barbara Riley Perez. A private burial service will take place at the family plot in the Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, NY  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia.
