Ptolomea McCloat

Ptolomea "Lomen" McCloat, a beacon of courage and selflessness, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, after a valiant journey with cancer. Lomen was born on July 21, 1937, in Baccara, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and she spent her final days in Olivebridge, surrounded by the love of her family and the serene beauty she so cherished.

Lomen's life was marked by her devotion to education and her unwavering Christian faith. As an elementary teacher in the Philippines and later in Canada, she touched the lives of countless students with her loving and patient approach to teaching. Her journey eventually led her to the United States, where she met her husband-to-be William McCloat .  While living in Pleasantville, NY they became part-time residents in Olivebridge in 1981, before settling there  full-time in 1997.   Lomen's community involvement extended to her attendance at St. Francis de Sales Church in Phoenicia, where she found solace and fellowship.

Lomen's vibrancy was reflected in her love for the yellow and red hues, the energetic cheering for her favorite NY Yankees and Knicks basketball teams, and the admiration for her beloved player, Derek Jeter. Her zest for life was evident in her enjoyment of both domestic and international travel, her exceptional culinary skills, and her reputation as a warm and gracious hostess.

An ardent lover of nature, Lomen found joy in walking the Ashokan Reservoir, taking in the majestic views of the Catskill Mountains. Her social spirit was renowned; she was a very social individual who was known to be feisty when necessary, and her fluency in four languages only amplified her ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Her family, whom she loved dearly, was always at the forefront of her thoughts, and she was never shy about expressing her love and affection. Long telephone conversations, dining out for sushi, and always placing others before herself were hallmarks of Lomen's generous and loving nature.

Lomen leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Her beloved husband William, her siblings Concordia Carter, Divinagracia Curley, Anunciacion Simon, Julian, Argeo, and Desiderio Sales, will hold her memory close to their hearts. She was predeceased by her parents, Emilio Albano Sales and Carmen Cadiz Sales, and her siblings Peregrino Sales and Emilio Sales II, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.

Ptolomea "Lomen" McCloat lived a life that exemplified courage, selflessness, and love. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that Lomen's legacy will endure through the lives she touched and the memories we cherish. Her journey on earth may have ended, but her story will live on forever in the hearts of her loved ones.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the St. Francis de Sales Church Main St. Phoenicia at 11am on Wednesday November 19, 2025. Arrangements are under the direction of Mark Wilsey at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main Street Phoenicia.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Olive First Aid, or the Olive Library.
