Renwick M. Dibbell, 96 of Main St. Phoenicia, NY died peacefully Friday Feb. 3, 2023 at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville, NY. He was born March 30, 1926 in Tannersville, NY son of the late Flavius and Amy Thorpe Dibbell. He was a
veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corp, and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the American Campaign Medal. He continued his service as a Life Member of the Phoenicia American Legion Post #950. He retired at age 79 from the Renwick M Dibbell Insurance Agency, and was proud of the certification he held as a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter. The Dibbell Family had been in the insurance business for ninety years. Growing up, the Phoenicia Fire Phone was in their home. They were responsible for signaling the siren at noon each day, and whenever a fire call was received, 24 hours a day. Ren was a charter member of the Phoenicia Library Board, past president, and volunteered to drive the book van during the Library's infancy. He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed long rides throughout the Catskill Mountains.
Surviving are his sons: Stephen (Judith) Dibbell of W. Shokan, Paul (Debbie) Dibbell of Elka Park, daughters: Jane (Ken) Booth of Shandaken, and Lisa (Dave) Dibbell of Elka Park. Grandchildren: Talia, Brendan, Christopher, and Scott. Great grandchildren: Seth and Gideon. He was predeceased by his wife Elsie Young Dibbell, and sister Alice Fay. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Renwick will be held on Sunday at 5:30pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia with Pastor Lee Stowe as celebrant. Spring interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Elka Park, NY. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Mountainside Care Sunshine Fund, or the Phoenicia American Legion Post. Friends will be received on Sunday from 3 to 5:30 pm at the E. B.
