West Shokan & PORT CHESTER – Richard Levine, 72, of Port Chester, New York passed away August 22, 2021, at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Connecticut after an 11-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
He was born in New York City on March 12, 1949, the son of Abraham Levine and Lorraine Wirig Levine. A graduate of City College of New York, he was an architect who held various positions in the public and private sectors. Richard worked for the Port Authority of New York as a lead building inspector where he oversaw the mall tenants of the World Trade Center. He was also a designer at IBM and a project manager at the Yale University Medical School, where he led renovations to the Yale New Haven Hospital and university facilities.
Richard was a world traveler, amateur photographer, and avid bike rider. He biked from Nevada to Vancouver, and across the Netherlands. He was also a keen hiker, kayaker, and outdoorsman – his excursions included the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, and the Adirondack Mountains. Richard enjoyed sharing his passions with others – his homemade pizzas and crepes, for instance.
Surviving are his Mother Lorraine Wirig Levine of West Shokan, daughter Michelle, 2 brothers: Howard and his wife Maryann of NJ, and Henry and his wife Lynne of Franklin Square. Nieces and nephew: Lorraine, Molly, and Glen also survive.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Thursday, August 26 at Bushkill Cemetery West Shokan. Friends and family will be received on Thursday from 11 am at the E. B.
