Boiceville-
Robert McBroom of Boiceville, NY passed away on Sunday, July 30th at the Onteora Mountain House. He was born on September 9th, 1946 in Mobile, Alabama. He was the son of the late Harry T. McBroom, Jr. and Frances Purdy McBroom. He is survived by his sister, Martha McBroom. The family moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Robert grew up.
Graduating from Washington University in St. Louis, he was awarded a fellowship in theatre at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a set and lighting designer, Bob also worked as a director, graphic artist and teacher.
For twelve years, Bob donated his many talents to Performing Arts of Woodstock--as director of four productions, set designer for several more, graphics designer and photographer for publicity, advertising and programs, director of emailings, board member, and generous provider of rehearsal space. He also hosted PAW's 50th anniversary party at Onteora in 2014.
Since 1991, he has been the co-owner and operator with Jong Mok Che, of the historic Onteora Mountain House, a beautiful and successful wedding destination located on the estate built in 1928 by Richard Hellman, the mayonnaise mogul
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Bob will take place on Wednesday August 9th at 3pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. Friends will be received on Wednesday prior to the service from 2pm to 3pm. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Reservoir Methodist Church Food Pantry.
