Robert Nussbaum Obituary

Shandaken-

Robert "Bob" Nussbaum, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Shandaken on September 30, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Born in 1937, Bob was the son of the late Sidney and Rose Nussbaum. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, community, and family.

Bob grew up in Far Rockaway NY where he developed a love of the great outdoors.  After High school Bob honorably served his country in the United States Navy, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of duty and discipline that he carried with him always. As the Owner and President of A.R. & H Advertising Inc., he combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his innate ability to connect with people. His colleagues and clients alike knew him as the consummate people person, someone whose talents extended far beyond the office. Later taking that entrepreneurial spirit to other interests, including becoming a restaurateur in his later life.

Bob's zest for life was evident in a myriad of interests. An avid fisherman, he looked forward to his annual trips abroad to fish for salmon, bone fish and Tarpon, embracing both the tranquility and the thrill of the catch. Whether fly fishing for trout in a serene stream near his home or surf casting in the salty sea, Bob was in his element. His love for nature was not confined to the water; he was equally at home in the Catskill Mountains, long Island, the sunshine of Florida or strolling the streets of his beloved New Yok City.

Athleticism played a significant role in Bob's life. With a passion for tennis, golf, skiing, and a host of other outdoor activities, he maintained an active lifestyle that kept him both physically and mentally sharp. His presence was magnetic; he had the rare ability to "light up a room" and was often described as a good listener with a strong sense of community. Bob could strike up a conversation with anyone, making every encounter memorable and meaningful.

A man of selfless nature, Bob's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring bonds he fostered with all who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a beautiful tapestry of dedication to his family, his work, and his country, all interwoven with the joy he found in the simple pleasures of nature and community.

Bob's home reflected his personality: meticulously landscaped and personally tended with care, it was a reflection of his dedication and love for his surroundings. The colors that he favored—blue, burgundy, and greys—mirrored the elegance and calmness he exuded.

Family was the cornerstone of Bob's world. As the patriarch, he created a home that was a hub of warmth and hospitality, constantly attracting family and friends for gatherings that would become cherished memories. He is survived by his loving son, Ben; daughters Carolyn and Diana; and his adoring grandchildren; Isaiah and Elias. Bob was predeceased by his son Christopher in 2004, and he now joins him in eternal rest.

Robert Nussbaum's departure leaves behind a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived but as a beloved father, friend and mentor, and for the countless lives he touched with his generosity, his laughter, and his unwavering commitment to those he held dear. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy will endure in the beauty of the mountains he cherished, the waters he navigated, and the family he adored.
