Salvatore " Sal " Caldarise, 84, of Big Indian died peacefully at his home under Hospice care. He was born May 3, 1939 son of the late Michael and Lena Caldarise. An area resident for many years he was the chief maintenance officer for the SHARP Committee in Phoenicia. He was predeceased by his wife Sally in 2022. Sal was a simple man who loved hunting & fishing, his Bible and his wife. He enjoyed pow wows and thrift shopping. A long time resident of Shandaken, he was a staple around the community and with his Church. The neighbors of Rose Mountain know Sal’s spirit and memory will remain a part of the mountain for years to come.
A Celebration of Life for Sal will be held on Wednesday at 2pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. Burial will be 10am Thursday morning at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Rt. 28 Allaben. Friends will be received on Wednesday prior to the service from 1 to 2pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home.
