Sandra M. Murray, a cherished matriarch, and heartwarming presence passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, in Poughkeepsie, at the age of 83. Born on July 6, 1940, in Yonkers, Sandra was the loving daughter of the late Manuel and Helen Urban Paiva. Her life was a testament to the power of dedication, love, and the simple joys that create the fabric of cherished memories. In 1958, Sandra married her beloved Joseph, and together they embarked on a journey of love and companionship that would span over six decades. They became residents of Woodland Valley in 1968, and raised their family in the Catskills. A true connoisseur of the earth's beauty, Sandra found solace and joy in tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Her green thumb brought forth an abundance of color and life, reflecting the vibrancy and nurturing nature of her own spirit. Sandra's home was a hub of warmth and hospitality, where she reigned as the matriarch, lovingly hosting family gatherings that were the highlight of many cherished moments. Her passion for swimming will be fondly remembered by all of the generations of children she gave instruction to while splashing around in the Woodland Valley Stream. Sandra's professional life was marked by her spirit of hospitality, having spent many years as a diligent waitress at various establishments. Among family and friends she was known for her culinary prowess, Sandra's mashed potatoes, pancakes, calamari sauce, and chicken meals were legendary and often frequently requested by her children and grandchildren. She believed in the importance of family life centered around the evening meal, serving a salad every night as a symbol of her care and commitment to her loved ones' well-being. To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as both Nonna and Grandma Murray, a name that resonated with love, comfort, and the sweet indulgence of her special treats. Her favorite color, blue, was a reflection of her serene and gentle nature, much like the tranquil hue of a clear sky or a calm sea. Sandra also possessed a fascinating interest in owls, a passion that showcased her appreciation for the mysteries and wonders of nature. Her home was adorned with various representations of these wise creatures, each piece telling a story of her unique and endearing interests. Her legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Joseph; her loving children: Joseph ( Jackie ) Murray, Alan (Karyn) Murray, Deborah (Rob) Lee and Kayleen (Andrea) Scali; a sister Joan Ousey and the 12 grandchildren who were the light of her life.   A Service to Celebrate the Life of Sandra will be held on Friday at 11am  at the E. B.
