Shirley Perpetua Obituary

Phoenicia-

Shirley L. Perpetua, 74 of Woodland Valley died Thursday November 19, 2020 at the Kingston Hospital after a recent hip surgery.  She was a lifelong area resident who was born February 28, 1946 the daughter of the late August and Verna Grey May.  Shirley was deeply connected to a "sense-of-community".  She led by example, and could be counted on to provide a meal of home baked ziti for every local need that would arise.  Helping others brought her fulfillment.  Her greatest source of joy was her beautiful family.  Shirley and her husband Mike were ardent supporters of their grandchildren by attending sporting events or whatever it may be for many years.  Shirley had a green thumb in her flower beds, enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino slot machines, and was a true Elvis fan.  She was a life-member of the M. F. Whitney Hose Co. in Phoenicia serving with the fire police unit.  Many area residents remember Shirley working as a pharmacy technician for almost 25 years with Marty at the Phoenicia Pharmacy.  Often times she would include an extra side-stop, on the way home from work, to deliver prescriptions to those who needed.  She will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her husband Michael, children: Tammy Weber ( George Burns) of West Shokan, Tina (Michael) Shields of NV, Michael (Paula) Perpetua of Kingston, Theresa (Robert) Jones of Shandaken, and Tanya (Jameson) Morton of Woodstock.  A sister: Elsie Worden of Lomontville, and brother Howard May of Saugerties.  36 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren also survive.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Shirley will be held privately on Sunday in an effort to be mindful of the current restrictions.  Friends will be received on Sunday from 10am to 1pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia.  The family requests that masks and social distancing protocols be observed.  Memorial contributions may be made to: Center for Spectrum Services 70 Kukuk Ln. Kingston, KidsPeace Foster Care 200 Aaron Ct. Kingston, or the Shandaken Food Pantry Church St. Phoenicia.  You may share a condolence or a special memory with the family on Shirley's Tribute Wall at gormleyfuneralhome.com
