Shandaken-
Sidney "Sid" Ford, 93 of Fox Hollow Road died Wednesday May 12, 2021 at his residence. A native and life long area resident, he was born January 14, 1928 in Shandaken, son of the late James and Mildred Simmons Ford. He was a veteran of the US Navy , active duty from 1946 to 1953, and served on several different vessels. He worked with his Dad at the James Ford & Son Service Garage in Shandaken, and eventually took ownership of the business with his wife Patty. He was dedicated to his profession, and assisted many customers who needed his help. He never said 'no' to anyone. Sid was the most personable and friendly person that you would ever meet. There was always a story to be told about every plain old truck, old car, or old motorcycle. His service to the community continued with his active participation in the Shandaken-Allaben Hose Co. of which he was a Charter Member. Sid was the oldest member of the Phoenicia American Legion Post #950. He had a keen interest in planes, and often shared conversations with Marty. Sid enjoyed race cars, loved to eat, and was a NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his daughters: Margaret (Peggy) & Scott Warner of PA, and Mary Ford of NJ. Two sons: Glenn (Lisa) Ford of Phoenicia and Dale of Shandaken. A brother Robert Ford of Mt. Tremper, grandchildren: Benjamin, Carolyn, Todd, Chris, James, Kayla, and Ashley, 5 great grandchildren also survive. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 2018, and by James' wives Mary Ford & Carolyn Ford who was not Sid's birth Mother , however Carolyn was the one to raise Sid.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Sid will be held on Wednesday at 10am at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. Burial with military honors, at the Hudler Cemetery Rt. 28 Mt. Tremper. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9pm at the E B Gormley Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Shandaken-Allaben Hose Co. or the Phoenicia American Legion Post#950.
