Stanley J. Paroubek, 76, of Shokan, New York, passed away on April 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 21, 1949, in Queens, New York, he was the son of the late Anthony and Margaret Graffenstein Paroubek. He was predeceased by his siblings Margaret, Anthony, and Carol. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Redding Paroubek; their daughters, Erin Gardner and her husband John, and Heather Palmer and her husband Jonathan; their cherished granddaughters, Autumn and Victoria; and his sister, Barbara Rizzi.
Stanley was a longtime area resident for more than forty years and was known as a steady, capable, and kind man. He was a retired Radiologic Technologist, having last worked for HealthAlliance in Kingston. Through his career, he served patients with professionalism, compassion, and a calm presence that brought comfort to many.
Stanley was skilled with his hands, whether he was fixing things, pruning the lilacs, operating lawn and garden machinery, cooking, or creating stained glass ornaments. He adored his and Susan’s pet cats over the years, and enjoyed watching the birds, finding peace and wonder in the world around him. He had a keen interest in the night sky and astronomy, and he often looked upward with curiosity and appreciation.
Stanley loved to explore new places with those he loved. In their early years of marriage, he and Susan journeyed across the country together for over a year in a van he built into a camper. Later with his children, he always filled family vacations with memorable experiences, from camping trips in the Catskills to a total solar eclipse in Aruba. Echoing their early years together, Stanley and Susan later bought a camper and enjoyed many trips to southern Maine together. His sense of curiosity and delight in nature are cherished qualities that continue to be passed down through his daughters and granddaughters.
Those who knew Stanley will remember him as a man of resilience and determination. He was a seventeen-year cancer survivor who remained focused on the positive, even in the face of hardship. His family said simply and lovingly, “He was a good man,” reflecting the respect, affection, and admiration he earned throughout his life. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled in the future. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Rescue Squad or the Olive Library.
