Phoenicia-
Stephanie "Steph" Steidel, 60, of Phoenicia passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, after a courageous battle with metastatic cancer. Born on July 30, 1964, in West Palm Beach, Steph was a vibrant soul who brought joy and comfort to all who knew her. Steph was a graduate of Onteora Central Schools. She worked at Micronetics in Kingston,1983 to 1985. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue a career in healthcare, obtaining her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate. As a dedicated nurse's aide at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation from 1985 to 1996, Steph touched the lives of countless individuals with her kindness and empathy. After a car accident prevented her from continuing her work, she found a new calling in providing home health care, allowing many to age with dignity and receive the medical attention they needed in the comfort of their own homes. Steph was known for her big heart and was always ready with a listening ear, eager to help in any way she could. Her compassion extended to all living creatures, and she had a particular soft spot for kittens, cats, and watching the hummingbirds come to the porch feeders. Steph's love for animals was matched by her love for the outdoors, and she could often be found fishing on the Esopus Creek. A lover of life's simple pleasures, Steph enjoyed the drama and intrigue of soap operas, which provided a delightful escape and topic of conversation with friends.
Surviving are her brother, Damon Seidel of Phoenicia. She was predeceased by her parents, Larry Johnson and Linda Warner Steidel Vasquez. She also leaves behind her dear friend Sharon, along with many other supportive and close friends who stood by her through life's ups and downs.
Steph's presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. We celebrate a life lived with love, compassion, and a touch of mischief. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who loved her. Steph's journey through life was a testament to the impact one person can have on the world around them. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us every day.
A Memorial Service will be held at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia Monday December 2, 2024 at 2pm. Friends will be received on Monday from 1pm to 2pm prior to the service.
