Thomas "Tom" Miller, the man whose laughter could be heard echoing through the valleys of the Catskills, passed on February 6, 2026, in Kingston, surrounded by family that he so dearly loved. Born on May 7, 1958, to the late James and Helen Mech Miller Sr., Tom's life was a beautiful composition of joy, humor, and an unyielding dedication to his family and community.
Tom was a proud graduate of Margaretville High School, a native son whose roots ran as deep as the town's history. He was the beloved father of Kari Miller, LeeAnn (Dave) Curci, Jenna (Peterifer) Stoutenburgh, Jasmin (Cory) Miller, and William (Shaina) Miller. His brother, John Miller, shared in the countless memories that paint the picture of Tom's life. Tom's legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren—Jonathan, Tabitha, Lisa, Austin, Hailey, David, Sarah, Leena, Jaxon, Talon, Lilly, Bailey, Bodie, and Liam—who knew him affectionately as Umpa, Papa, and Grandpa. Several nieces and nephews also survive him, each carrying a spark of his indomitable spirit.
Tom's work history was as colorful as his personality. He spent years at the Margaretville Bowling Alleys, not just knocking down pins but building lifelong friendships. He once bowled a near-perfect 299 game, but it was the camaraderie, not the score, that he treasured most. As a rural mail delivery man, Tom didn't just deliver letters; he delivered smiles, forming cherished memories with his customers who became an extended family. His dedication to the community shone brightly through his service as a life member and Past Captain of the Fleischmanns Fire Department.
A true handyman, Tom was always ready to lend a hand or a tool to his children, fixing problems and, more often than not, causing a few chuckles along the way. His interests were as varied as his jokes. An avid hunter and fisherman, he relished his adventures, especially those salmon expeditions in Alaska. His vehicle, a "Rolling Jukebox," was a mobile concert hall where the tunes of "Boogie Woogie Choo Choo Train" and "Love Doctor" played in harmony with renditions sung together with his brothers of "Bye-Bye Love."
Tom's excitement for roadside gadgets was legendary, and his love for the color green was evident in everything from his clothes to his fishing lures. Above all, Tom was a loving, silly goofball, a man whose dad jokes were as endless as his generosity and warmth.
As we bid farewell to Tom, we remember a man who lived life with a twinkle in his eye and a joke on his lips. He may have left us, but his laughter remains, a gentle echo that reminds us to find joy in the everyday and to keep the music playing, no matter what. Tom Miller, you will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Your legacy of love, laughter, and a well-timed punchline will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know you. A memorial will be scheduled for the Spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fleischmanns Fire Department.
