Thomas B. Walsh, 87 of Phoenicia died peacefully at home on Thursday July 13, 2023. He was born September 27, 1935 in Brooklyn, the son of the late Thomas and Rhoda Fife Walsh. He was a sergeant with the New York City Police Department, having served forty-three years. Tom retired in 1996 and moved up to the Catskills. He was a member of the Sergeants Benevolent Assn. and the NRA. He was also a member of the United States Marine Corps Air Reserve. Tom was an avid hunter, enjoyed reading, and had a green thumb in the vegetable and flower gardens around his home. He toured Germany several times, and made some wonderful memories. He loved his adopted town of Phoenicia and is remembered as a generous and warm neighbor and friend.
Surviving are his children: Susan ( Ian ) Boyle, and Steven ( Stacie Shapiro ) Walsh, two grandchildren: Emma and Timothy. His childhood friend and dear companion Louise Frank, two sisters: Barbara McCluskey, and Christina Anderson, a brother Kevin Walsh and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his beloved Anneliese L. Folkerts in 2001.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 10am at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery Rt. 28 Shandaken with Fr. Tom Wilhelm officiating. A gathering to Celebrate the Life of Thomas Walsh will be announced in the fall. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Phoenicia Library.
