BEARSVILLE - Vernon L. Shultis, 87, of Windy Knoll, died Monday,
February 9, 2026 at St. John's Hospital Far Rockaway, NY. Born August 27, 1938 in Bearsville he was the son of the late Victor and Olive DeGraff Shultis.
A veteran of the US Air Force he served from 1956-1960. A lifetime area resident, he was employed for the Woodstock Highway Department for 27 years.
Active in his community he was a Life Member of the Woodstock Fire Co. #2 and the Woodstock American Legion Post #1026. He loved the outdoors and deer hunting as well as being a fan of NASCAR particularly his favorite driver, Richard Petty.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Janet in January of this year, survivors include a son: Jeffrey and his wife, Karen Shultis, a grandson, Jason and his wife, Jessica Shultis and a great granddaughter, Stella Shultis. A sister, Irene DeGraff and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard Shultis.
His Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Friday at the EB Gormley Funeral Home, Main St., Phoenicia. Interment with military honors will follow in the Woodstock Cemetery.
