Obituary

Kingston-

On Monday, September 19, 2022, Victoria “Sally” Theresa Schoen, age 104, passed away at the Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingston, NY. Born on September 24, 1917, in Browndale, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Anthony and Theresa Harvatine.

Sally was raised in Browndale, Pennsylvania, the youngest of her siblings. After graduating from Forest City High School in 1935, she bravely left her hometown and moved to New York City at 19 years of age. It was there that Sally met Alex, her true love and soul mate. Alex and Sally were married on Oct. 4, 1938. After a few years in the city, Alex and Sally bought a small home in Mount Tremper, NY where they resided for several years before moving to Kingston, NY. Sally and Alex spent many happy years together before he passed away in 1987. Sally was Alex’s business partner as secretary and accountant of Tremper Machine and Tool Company. In addition to raising two children together, they loved to travel. Alex faithfully planned two vacations per year so he could travel with his beloved wife.

Sally was known to have a busy social calendar. She enjoyed hosting picnics and dinner parties for friends. She liked to play cards, especially bridge, and had a close group of bridge friends. She loved to play tennis; so much that Alex surprised her with a tennis court right in their backyard so they never had to go far to play together! Sally loved gardening and was always proud of her yard full of flowers and her vegetable garden (both well fertilized by her compost pile!).

Sally is survived by her daughter Vicki and her husband Richard Alexander of Kingston, NY, granddaughters Susan Williams and her husband Steven of Hopewell Junction, NY and Kimberly Alexander of Rhinebeck, NY, great-grandchildren David, Reed, Faith, and Grace, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Alexander Schoen, son Robert Schoen, infant daughter Lillian, and siblings Anthony (Chip), Frank (Harve), Theresa (Tess), Mary (Meetz), Julia (Jay), and adopted brother Stanley Gross.
