Willem H. Brybag, 89 of Fleischmanns died Monday November 20, 2023 at the Margaretville Hospital. He was born August 18, 1934 in Suriname, South America, son of the late Albertus and Leopaulina Nijhbroek Brybag. He immigrated to Brooklyn, and had been a member of the Local 32 BJ Union of Building Service employees at 1407 Broadway. An area resident for more than forty years, He enjoyed travel, classic country music, and horse racing. Willem was a skilled angler who was always happy to drop a line for some fresh fresh water fishing. His family was paramount to him, and his memory will be cherished by many.
Surviving are his children: William and his partner Erika Templehoff, Errol and his wife Stephanie, Joseph and his wife Samantha, Rieke and her husband Arnold Guercio, Lillian and her husband Lesley Postma, Ilse and her husband Randy Ciprich, and Patricia and her husband Frank McCann. 25 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Elfriede Brybag in 2010, his daughter Anneke Vignapiano, and his brothers: Albert, Franz, Rudolph, Ben, Ewald, August and sister Willie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Nov. 28 at 1pm at the St. Francis de Sales Church Main St. Phoenicia. Burial in the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Shandaken. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday prior to the Mass from 10am to 12:30pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia.
