Mt. Tremper-
Charles Berryann Sr. , 82,of Rt. 212 died Sunday August 19, 2018 at the Mountainside Care Center in Margaretville. He was born in Phoenicia July 22, 1936 son of the late Ward and Beatrice Hamilton Berryann. He served our country as a veteran of the United States Army. Charlie retired as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor with the NYS DOT after many years of service. He was a Honorary Life Member of the Onteora Hose Co in Mt. Tremper , and had served as First Assistant Chief, as well as having been past President of the Fire Company. He was a former volunteer of the Shandaken Planning Board, served as Town Assessor for a number of years, and had been a long-time Republican Committeeman. Charlie was recognized with the Pride of Shandaken Award for his years of hard work and dedication as a well respected member of his community. He was active with the Shandaken Little League for more than ten years. Charlie had a great appreciation for nature, and was a skilled fisherman and hunter who taught the next generation the ways of the Catskill Mountains. He was a talented musician who played the guitar and sang country music. He had play with the Blue Ridge Ramblers for years. He took pride in caring for his property and tinkering with small engines. Most of all, his FAMILY was paramount to him in every regard.
Surviving are his daughter Cheryl of Big Indian, Sons: Charles Jr. (Debra), Kenneth (Donna),Kyle (Julie), and Alan(Jill). Sisters: Alberta Shultis, and Linda Storey. Daughter-in-Law Missy Berryann. He was predeceased by his wife Reita Quick Berryann in 2010, son Roger on May 23, 2018, and his siblings: Burton, Ward, Anna Mae Wilber, Mary Wilber, and Helen Curtis. 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Charles Berryann Sr. will be held on Wednesday Aug. 22 at 10am at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. Private burial in the Mt. Pleasant Rural Cemetery. The family suggest memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Tremper Fire Department. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the E. B.
