OLIVEBRIDGE...... Evelyn Bennett, 73, of Rte. 213, died Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Ten BroeckCommons Nursing Home. Born October 30, 1949 in Flushing she was the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy Prochaska. An area resident since 1956, she was a former employee of Graphic Techniques in Lake Katrine as a technical illustrator and then became the first curator for the Town of Shandaken Historical Museum in Pine Hill, where she worked for 14 years.
Evelyn was a true animal lover and avid birdwatcher. She had a true talent for watercolor painting of landscapes and enjoyed walking at the Ashokan Reservoir. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and giving person who always never missed an opportunity to give back to her community. Evelyn was a member of the Big Indian-Oliverea FD Ladies Auxiliary, the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley Park Association, and the Oliverea Cemetery Association.
Survivors include two sons: Aaron (Jeanenne) Bennett of Oliverea and Ryan (Amber) Bennett of South Range, MI. Her beloved companion and friend of 28 years, Will Krein, two sisters: Ellen Shultis of Olivebridge and Louise Bolter of Kingston. A brother, Earl Prochaska of Olivebridge, and six grandchildren that she adored: Hudson, Joshua, Samuel, Matthew, Eli, and Tug Bennett. Several nieces, nephews and her former spouse, Richard Bennett also survive. Predeceased by her sister Anne Nissen.
Her Funeral Service will be held 6:00 PM Wednesday at the EB Gormley Funeral Home, Main St., Phoenicia. Friends will be received Wednesday from 3:00 – 6:00 PM. Spring Interment will be held in the Krumville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ulster County SPCA or the Alzheimer’s Association.
