Shokan-
Gary J. Braverman, 74 of Shokan died Thursday September 10, 2020 at his residence. He was born June 8, 1946 in Manhattan, son of Renee Lepcofker Braverman and the late Alvin Braverman. Years ago, Gary was active in the sport of boxing, as a promoter working with other notables such as Don King. An area resident for the past twenty years, he had formerly made his home in Westchester. Gary was a certified antiques appraiser who operated Rag Time antiques previously in Manhattan, and then in Shokan. He was always improving himself, by reading and learning all that he could to stay abreast of conditions in the world of antiques. He also enjoyed extensive travels to antique shows. Gary had a commanding presence about him, and truly was a 'people-person' who had a talent for engaging folks in conversation. He is fondly recalled for having a big kind heart, and will be cherished by those that loved him.
Surviving in addition to his Mother are his wife Nancy Koball Braverman, sister Cory Braverman of Saugerties, and many friends from their neighborhood.
His service will be private, and a memorial celebration of the life of Gary will be planned for a future date. You may share a special memorial to honor and respect Gary on his Tribute Wall at www.gormleyfuneralhome.com Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia.
