Marie Jaeck Obituary

West Shokan-
***  Saturday October 9, 2021 from 12-4pm at Davis Park in West Shokan a Celebration of Life will occur. (RSVP recommended for catered lunch to 845-417-5210)

Marie A. Jaeck, 78 of W. Shokan died Thursday August 19, 2021 at Kingston Hospital.  She was born Sept. 15, 1942 in Manhattan daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Speckman Bane.  An area resident since 1965, She lovingly raised her family, and was active in the community.  Many enjoyed bantering with her at the counter of the Singer-Denman Lumber Center in Boiceville where she worked for over 14 years.

An avid patron of the Olive Free Library, she often feared they would run out of her type of books with the glossy covers and engaging pictures. Oh she loved to read and support the library. On St. Patrick’s Day she made a cake which has become a family favorite for its glossy icing and lime green color, dubbed, “Aunt Rieses Green Cake,” the sugar content alone matched just how sweet she was to all who met her. Another fond memory, one we laugh at now, was how Marie insisted all kids whether they were hers or not take a “Nap” for an hour in her home. Often met with contempt for napping, we believe there are some adults now who celebrate learning this art from Marie at such an early age! Hot tea with lemon was her go to drink de jour and boy did she like her tea, but you better have lemon! Her husband spoke very little because she took care of the talking for two with her never lost New York accent. You can take the girl out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the girl.  We know you are safe, resting in heaven.

Surviving are her husband Fred whom she married in 1966, a son Edward of MN, 3 daughters:Lisa Jaeck Fisher of Saugerties, Jill Triana of CA, and Gale Jaeck Quick of Samsonville. 3 brothers: Harold, Ernest, and John Bane, 7 grandchildren: Aubrie, Annika, Emily, Brynn, Dylan, Alexander, and Derek.  She was predeceased by her brother Andrew Bane.

A Memorial Gathering to celebrate the life of Marie will be held  on October 9th from 12-4pm at Davis Park. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Library.  You may share a special memory or condolence with the family on Marie's Tribute Wall at gormleyfuneralhome.com
